The Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women conducted a hearing here on Wednesday to elicit views of workers and employers on its draft guidelines related to workplace safety, dignity, and security of women in textile and garment units.

R. Karuppuswamy, Director of Rights Education and Development Centre, told presspersons that the Commission constituted a committee last year to study and come out with guidelines related to employment of women in textile and garment units. The committee has released the draft guidelines. A meeting was held with the workers here on Wednesday morning and with representatives of employers’ associations in the afternoon. Meetings will be held with workers in Erode and Tiruppur on Thursday.

Similar meetings will be organised in Salem and Namakkal areas in the first week of November. The guidelines are likely to be finalised by the end of this year. A member from the employers might be added as member of the committee too.
