MCI inspects Coimbatore Medical College

June 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - COIMBATORE:

A team of assessors from the Medical Council of India (MCI) on Thursday inspected Coimbatore Medical College and the Hospital as well. This was part of the process to ensure the college was conforming to the norms necessary to continue offering the 150 MBBS seats.

An earlier MCI report had found several shortcomings in infrastructure and had recommended to the Union Health Ministry that MBBS course recognition be withheld. However, following immediate appeals by the Hospital officials about the ongoing works, the College was allowed to continue the course.

However, its proposal to increase the seat strength to 250 was turned down.

Hospital officials said that the team assessed various things such as the statistics on total number laboratory investigations, in-patients and out-patients, besides treatment and medical records, hostels and other related infrastructure. The officials were positive that the college met all the requirements for offering 150 seats.
