Man killed in elephant attack

A 27-year-old man who was attacked by a wild elephant succumbed to injuries on Monday.

M. Ganesh, a resident of Sanjeevi Nagar near Pannimadai, was attacked by a lone elephant on Pannimadai Road around 11.30 p.m. on Sunday, Forest Department officials said. He was rushed to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, where he died without responding to treatment at 8.15 a.m. on Monday. The body was handed over to the family after post mortem. The Forest Department released an immediate solatium of ₹ 50,000. The remaining sum of ₹ 3.5 lakh will be handed over to the family in the coming days, officials said.
