The Karumathampatti police have arrested a 21-year-old man for alleged sexual assault on a minor girl.
The police said that K. Roymon, a resident of SPB Colony near Pallipalayam in Erode, was arrested on Monday.
According to the police, the accused was in a relationship with a 17-year-old girl hailing from Namakkal who worked in a powerloom unit at Karumathampatti. He took the girl to Kerala around 10 days ago in the pretext of marrying her.
As the girl went missing, her parents lodged a complaint with the Karumathampatti police.
During investigation, it was found that the accused was staying in Kerala with the girl.
The police arrested him when he came to Coimbatore along with the girl.
He was arrested for offences under Sections 366 (Kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage) of the IPC and 5 (i) (Aggravated sexual assault) and 6 (Punishment for aggravated sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody, the police added.
