The police on Friday arrested a man on the charge of manufacturing and selling adulterated ghee under a popular brand name. V. Saravanakumar (38) of K.K. Pudur was involved in ghee manufacturing and marketing for six years. He was indulging in the malpractice for about a year.
The police said that on Friday Saravanakumar tried to sell ghee under a popular brand name to a trader on D.B. Road in R.S. Puram.
A. Manokaran , a manager of the original ghee firm happened to come there at the same time.
He caught Saravanakumar and handed over to the police.
Case
A case was registered against Saravanakumar under sections 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (use forged document or electronic record as genuine), 483 (counterfeiting a property mark used by someone else) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of a property) read with section 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences) of the Indian Penal Code.
He was also booked under section 51 (when copyright is infringed) read with section 63 (offence of infringement of copyright or other rights conferred by this Act) of the Indian Copyright Act, 1957. Chemical essence used for adulteration, ghee and many duplicate stickers were seized from the manufacturing unit of the accused.
