Man held for making hoax calls

A 32-year-old man from Mettupalayam, who stole a mobile phone and made hoax calls in an inebriated condition, was arrested by police here on Monday.

On Sunday evening, police control room at Chennai received two calls from a person stating that bombs were placed at the Erode Railway Junction, Erode bus stand and a temple in the city. The caller introduced himself as Ibrahim. Sleuths of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad carried out checks and found the calls to be hoax.

On inquiry, it was found that R. Santhosh Kumar (31) of Mettupalayam stole the phone from S. Lingaraj at the Erode Junction on October 1 and made the calls in a drunken state. He was arrested and lodged at prison.
