June 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The body of an unidentified man aged about 35 to 40 years was found in a stone quarry at Irumporai village at the foothills of Othimalai in Mettupalayam Taluk on Tuesday.

Police sources said that the victim’s neck was tightly tied with a lungi and he could have been murdered a few days ago.

Sirumugai police registered a case under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code. The body has been taken to Mettupalayam Government Hospital for identification and post-mortem. The case was registered based on a complaint lodged by Village Administrative Officer (VAO) K. Ravikumar of Sirumugai (in-charge of Irumporai village). The VAO said that the villagers found the body in the quarry. The quarry, about 50 feet deep, was not in use for about seven months as the previous contractor had not renewed his licence for quarrying.
