A man, who created an argument at his wife’s workplace in an inebriated state was allegedly tied up and beaten up by his father-in-law and others in Combatore on Wednesday. A video of the man lying under Gandhipuram flyover with his hands tied up was widely circulated on social media.

The police said that the incident happened when the man had approached the woman to withdraw divorce proceedings she had initiated against him.

According to the police, the woman was living with her parents after alleged torture from husband. The divorce petition filed by the woman is pending in the family court. Irked over the divorce proceedings, the man on Wednesday went to the shop at Gandhipuram where the woman is currently working and allegedly demanded to live with him. However, he was sent away by men at the shop.

“The man reportedly went to the shop again and created nuisance. He was found lying close to the median below flyover later with hands tied up. The man, who could not even stand in a drunk state, has accused his father-in-law of having beaten him up,” said a police officer.

The Kattoor police have issued a CSR on a complaint filed by the woman accusing the man of repeatedly torturing her. The police said that they did not get a complaint from the man.
