Man arrested for attempting suicide

A 29-year-old man, who in an inebriated condition threatened his father and attempted to commit suicide by releasing gas from LPG cylinder at Kavindapadi, was arrested on Sunday night.

Kasilingam (59), a daily wager, is living at Ayyampalayam with his wife and son Karthick (29). On Sunday, when Karthick came home drunk, Kasilingam scolded him. Angered by it, Karthick pushed his parents out of the house and locked it from inside. He released gas from the cylinder and threatened to commit suicide.

On information, Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot and asked Karthick to come out of the house. As he refused, people in the area were evacuated and power supply was disconnected. Kavindapadi police held talks with him for three hours. Since Karthick refused to budge, Inspector Kannan, fire service personnel Boopathy and fire officer Arumugam broke open the door and caught him. They also stopped the gas leakage.
