The Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association led by C. Nallasami has urged the State Government to initiate steps to link Pandiaru and Moyar.

Addressing reporters at a press meet in Coimbatore on Friday, he said the linking of the two rivers would help River Bhavani get an additional 14 tmc for the State and hydel power generation for Kerala.

The Central Government that had announced the Godavari-Cauvery river linking scheme should first implement this.

Additional water for Chennai

If Pandiaru and Moyar were linked, the water that flows in River Bhavani will also help Cauvery and indirectly Chennai that can draw the additional water from the Veeranam Tank.

On the Central Government’s move to constitute a tribunal to look after all river water sharing disputes in the country, Mr. Nallasami said the proposed tribunal should not be a toothless tiger as the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, the orders of which Karnataka had not followed.

He also said that the farmers’ association would hold a Lower Bhavani Farmers’ Protection Conference in Erode on July 23.

It was aimed at highlighting and stopping the mismanagement in water distribution of the Public Works Department.
