Both hailed from Sakatha village, near Kothagiri. The police said that the couple had two sons aged respectively six and seven. Moorthi suspected that his wife was having an extra marital relationship, following which they were living separated. She had taken her sons to her parents’ place.

She was working in a textile outlet at Kotagiri to run the family. Public Prosecutor K. Anandhakrishnan said that the Mahila Court Judge, M. Sarvamangala, has imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 too on him.
