Based on Coimbatore model, the State Government plans to open libraries at all police stations in the State, Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development S.P. Velumani said here on Sunday.

Inaugurating a library project at a function held at the Police Community Hall at Upplipalayam, Mr. Velumani said that all the police stations in the Coimbatrore rural police limit already have libraries. Now, with the help of the Lions Clubs International 324 B1, libraries have been opened at all the 24 police stations under the Coimbatore Commissionerate.

The Minister said he would take up the issue with Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisami to replicate this model at all the police stations in the State. Opening of libraries in police stations would help develop police-public relationship. Those who come with disputes can read books while they are waiting to visit the officials at the stations. Besides this, it would also help policemen to relax when they are under stress, the Minister said.

The Lions Clubs International 324 B1 has donated ₹ 20,000 worth of books to each station in the city. Earlier, Kavidasan, Director of Roots Group of Companies spoke. While welcoming the gathering, S. Motilal Kataria, District Governor, District 324 B1 said that the Lions Clubs are working closely with various government departments on socially-relevant projects.
