Coimbatore will be one of the 13 centres in the country where the German Embassy plans to organise events next year to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Germany.
The events planned by the embassy will intensify the partnership between the two countries across all segments of technology, culture and industry, according to German Ambassador Thomas Matussek.
Mr. Matussek, who was here to participate in a function organised by the Gedee Technical Training Institute, told The Hindu on Thursday that the year would start with the visit of the German Chancellor to India and end in November 2012 with the Asia Pacific conference of German industries. The embassy had invited institutions and authorities to make proposals for cooperative projects.
On bilateral relationship between India and Germany, he said that the two economies complemented each other. India had in abundance what Germany needed — for instance, the young, creative and highly skilled IT people. Germany, on the other hand, would be able to offer technologies, experiences and solutions to big challenges such as vocational training, transport, infrastructure, waste management, energy (especially alternative energy), mobility, and environmental technologies, he said.
One of the main reasons why over 800 German companies were engaged in India and were so optimistic of growth was that India was a democracy based on the same values as Germany.
