Inter-zonal police games begin


Police personnel from seven teams across the State are participating in the Tamil Nadu Police 55{+t}{+h}Inter Zonal Games Meet-2015 which began at the Police Recruit School Ground here on Friday.

Teams from the West, North, South and Central zones, Chennai City, Tamil Nadu Armed Reserve and Commando Police are taking part in the three-day event.

A total of 846 police personnel, including 157 women, will take part in the meet. Tirupur City Police Commissioner S.N. Seshasai inaugurated the meet on Friday by lighting the games torch. Inspector General of Police (West Zone) K. Shankar spoke at the occasion.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Coimbatore Range) Ayush Mani Tiwari and Superintendents of Police M. Sudhakar (Coimbatore District), M.R. Sibi Chakravarthi (Erode), Amit Kumar Singh (Tirupur District) and T. Senthil Kumar (The Nilgiris) were also present on the occasion.

Eight different games are organised in the meet at Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode and Ooty.

Basketball for men and women and obstacles for men will be held at the PRS Ground in Coimbatore; shuttlecock (for men and women) and hockey at Tirupur; volleyball, handball and kabaddi (men and women) at Erode and football at the HADP Open Air Stadium in Ooty.

The officers, too, have a shuttle tournament that will be held at Tirupur. Prizes will be distributed to the winners at the valedictory programme to be held at the PRS Ground on Sunday. Last time, the meet was hosted by Coimbatore was in 2011.
