An injured elephant calf ventured out of the forest areas at Mangarai near Anaikatti in the district on Wednesday.

Forest Department officials said that the calf, which appeared to be around one-and-a-half year old, had got separated from its herd and was standing around 1 km outside of the reserve forest year. It appeared to have injuries in its mouth and also looked very weak.

However, it refused to eat the food and medicine given by the forest officials. The calf is being continuously monitored.
