In a second advisory in less than a week, the District Collector has advised farmers to be mindful of the safety parameters around borewells on the private/ patta lands. According to an administration release, Collector S.Prabhakar has advised farmers to identify borewells that are not in use because they had dried up, or those unused because of lack of farming activity in the vicinity. They should be closed with iron lid or concrete lid.

Wherever, the borewells held potential for rainwater harvesting, such structures may be set up to put the borewell to use. Irrespective of the functional status, all borewells should be fortified with safety structures as per the guidelines of the government and the Supreme Court, Mr.Prabhakar said in a release.
