The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) joined hands with Zimson to conduct the CII - Zimson Cup golf tournament for the first time at the par-72 Coimbatore Golf Club (CGC) course in Chettipalayam here on Sunday.

The very first outing for CII turned out to be a huge hit as 113 golfers, both young and old, enrolled for the event. The tournament, which was played in the Stableford format, was spread over five categories and K. Surya Kumar, with 42 points, finished on top in the nett category (0-15). He earned a round of applause for his stupendous show.

J. Vignesh (34 pts) did well in the gross category and V. Chinnaswamy took home the Super Senior Trophy (above 75yrs).

The CGC president D. Lakshminarayanaswamy was a happy man. He thanked K.V. Srinivasan, Chairman, CII (Coimbatore Zone) for getting the event to Coimbatore.

The former Chairman of CII Tamil Nadu Ravi Sam was also pleased. He said it could become an annual affair. “The CII members from other zones and districts can also play the Coimbatore event,” he said.

Adil Nawaz, Director, Zimson, approved of the idea of hosting the event annually with support from CII.

P.R. Ramakrishnan, the CGC Golf Captain, said the tournament bridged the gap between generations. “We had golfers from 14 years to 91 taking part,” he said. He praised Surya for his great performance.
