The Nilgiris District Collector, J. Innocent Divya, announced that all educational institutions across the district will be closed on Tuesday.
Expecting heavy rain, the Collector said that 42 district-level disaster management teams, including officials from the revenue department, highways as well as other government departments, had been pressed into service to deal with any emergences that may arise in the coming days.
She also said that temporary relief shelters had been set up in Kundah and Coonoor taluks to accommodate persons whose houses the administration feared were at the risk of collapse or being caught up in landslips.
Fire and Rescue Services personnel from neighbouring district were also being called upon to lend support to the personnel already stationed in the Nilgiris.
