Held for sexually assaulting four-year-old

A 19-year-old youth was arrested and lodged in the Borstal School at Pollachi on the charge of attempting to rape a four-year-old neighbour at Velandipalayam on Saturday.

The All-Woman Police (Central) of the Coimbatore City Police said that the girl was staying in her aunt’s house and was playing near the house when accused M. Arunkumar (19) took her with him with a promise of getting some fruits.

He tried to assault her amidst some bushes near her house. A neighbour noticing this raised an alarm and Arunkumar fled the place. He was booked under Section 7 read with 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and was arrested the same day.

Woman held

Mettupalayam Police arrested a 38-year-old woman for allegedly stealing 25 pairs of silver anklets weighing nearly 1.5 kg from a jewellery outlet on the Ooty Road on Saturday.

It is learnt that the owner of the outlet M. Vinod Kumar (44) was showing a few pairs of anklets to S. Kumari (38) of T.N. Palayam in Erode who came to the shop in the guise of a customer.

He was weighing a pair of anklets when the woman reportedly fled the place with the anklets worth about Rs. 60,000.

The woman was booked under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested the same day.

Arrested

Perur Police arrested R. Sathish Kumar (38) of Indra Nagar, near Selvapuram, in the late hours of Saturday for organising flesh trade in a rented house at Perur. The police said that the accused occupied the house, less than a month ago saying that he was going to live there with his wife.

Based on a tip-off from a 20-year old Perur resident, police arrested Sathish and are on the lookout for his accomplices Murugesan of Vadavalli and Sikkander of Dindigul district. A 23-year-old woman from Kolkatta was rescued by the police.

Ganja seized

The Ramanathapuram and Saibaba Colony Police arrested four persons, including a woman, on Saturday for allegedly selling ganja. About 2.2 kg ganja, Rs. 4,350 and two mobiles phones were seized from them.
