Police on Sunday arrested Santhosh of Kollam District in Kerala, on charges of misusing the defence uniform and trying to pass himself off as a member of the armed forces.

The accused, who was residing in Ramanathapuram, underwent three months' military training in Maharashtra in 2003, but deserted his career and came down South.

However, he continued to move around the premises of 110 Infantry Battalion in Coimbatore, stating that he was from the Army.

Based on a tip-off from Military Intelligence, Ramanathapuram Police Inspector Venkataraman and his team took Santhosh into custody.

A case has been registered under Section 140 IPC (misuse of uniform, logo and symbol of defence forces). He was remanded in judicial custody.

Policeman stabbed

Previous enmity between policeman Ramachandran and his schoolmate Shankar led to the latter stabbing Ramachandran on Friday afternoon.

According to police, Shankar allegedly stabbed the policeman, who was attached to the PCR Wing, after a quarrel broke out between them over a girl that Ramachandran loved, but who had married another man..

The police said following a complaint that was lodged by Ramachandran, who is currently under treatment at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, they took Shankar into custody.
