While areas in the plains witnessed drizzles and mild showers, the intensified South West monsoon in the hilly terrains in Western Ghats has brought copious inflow into the reservoirs improving their storage considerably.

In the last 24 hours that ended at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday, the 11 rain gauge stations in Coimbatore district recorded 531.20 mm, thus registering an average rainfall of 44.27 mm.

Rainfall recorded in mm: Airport Peelamedu 4, Perianaickenpalayam 10, Pollachi 75, Sulur 5.20, TNAU 12, Chincona 135, Chinnakallar 116, Valparai PAP 73, Valparai taluk 89, Coimbatore South 12, Upper Nirar 116, and Lower Nirar 156.

As a result of heavy rain in the catchments of Siruvani, the Forest Department has once again closed Kovai Coutrallam for the public from Thursday.

The heavy rain in the Nilgiris has resulted in copious inflow into the Pilloor reservoir, forcing the authorities to discharge more than 10,000 cusecs through sluices including the discharge for power generation. A flood alert has been sounded along the banks of river Bhavani.
