Based on the weather forecast alerting rain in Western districts of Tamil Nadu, including Coimbatore, the Health Department has made preparations to prevent outbreaks of diseases, especially viral fever and water-borne diseases.

The Department has advised the public to seek treatment from a registered medical practitioner for any type of fever at the early stage.

Deputy Director of Health Services (DDHS) P.G. Bhanumathi said that all the Government hospitals and primary health centres are prepared to handle an emergency situation.

Essential drugs

“Medical officers and other staff have been instructed to be on alert. Essential drugs have been stocked in adequate volume. Mobile medical unit with medical officer and drugs is being operational.

A team of Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram is visiting schools to take care of children's health,” said Dr. Bhanumathi.

All hospitals, Government and private, have been asked to send daily reports of outpatient and inpatient fever cases to the office of DDHS to monitor the situation.

Premises clean

“Special teams of the Department is visiting places where fever cases are reported more. Public are requested to keep the house and premises clean and avoid breeding sources for mosquitoes.

While chlorination is advised for water used for cooking and other usages, drinking water should be boiled before consumption,” said Dr. Bhanumathi.

She added that there was no alarming increase in fever cases in the district as of now.
