Four students from Gedee Technical Training Institute have left for London to participate in the WorldSkills International Competition in October.
P. Jibi Joseph and K.V. Nikhilraj (Mechatronics skills), V. Shaheer (Mould Making skills), and K. Abdul Mubhash (Polymechanics skills), are trainees of the institute who have completed the diploma course and undergoing industrial training.
All four got selected for the international competition after winning the National Skills Competition organised by the National Skills Development Corporation in June. They will represent India under their respective trade categories. They underwent a preparation training for four months to enable them compete at the international level.
In the WorldSkills Competitions 2009, held in Calgary, Canada, Priyadarshan, trainee from GTTI won a silver medal in the mould making skills category.
According to Akila Shanmugam, Corporate Executive, Gedee Group, the contestants are full of enthusiasm and determined to not only win the contests, but also prove India's capabilities in the world skill arena.
P. Mallinathan (Manager, UMS Technologies Training Unit and also Chief Expert for WSC Mould Making skills), and two faculty, M. Joy Varghese (expert for Polymechanics) and K.K. Vivekananthan (expert for Mechatronics), are accompanying the trainees to London.
The team will have their initial meeting and briefing in New Delhi with Central Government officials and then proceed to London.
The WorldSkills International Competition, popularly called the skills' Olympics, takes place in a different country every two years and brings together youth below 22 years to compete in a variety of skills ranging from welding to web designing.
