State secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI) R. Mutharasan has said that both the Central and the State Governments have waged a war against the farmers in the State.

He was at Valayakaranoor village in Gobichettipalayam block in the district on Thursday inspecting the works on installation of high tension tower on a farm land. Addressing media persons, he said that the Power Grid Corporation of India was carrying out works to install towers on farm lands to erect overhead high tension power lines across the State without obtaining permission from the farmers or providing compensation to them. “The project is implemented in an autocratic manner by using police force,” he said.

Mr. Mutharasan said that the farmers were forced to leave their land which cannot be allowed and wanted the governments to hold talks with them. Listing out various projects, including hydrocarbon project, installation of high tension towers on farm lands and laying of petroleum pipeline through agricultural lands from Coimbatore to Karnataka, Mr. Mutharasan said that all the projects were against the farmers and wanted the projects to be stopped.

He said Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami was adamant to implement the Salem – Chennai green corridor project and added that the project was not supported by people in Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai and Kanchipuram. “If the project execution begins, people will strongly oppose it and the government should face the consequences,” he warned.
