Gang arrested for kidnapping businessman

The Salem Rural police on Saturday arrested four persons in connection with the kidnap of a businessman near Attur a few weeks ago.

R. Suresh Kumar, who runs multiple businesses here, was kidnapped by a gang on June 18 near Mottur bridge while he was on his way to a petrol station owned by him.

Following a complaint from Suresh Kumar’s father, four special teams led by Superintendent of Police S.Deepa Ganiger and three ADSPs conducted investigations. Realising police movement, the gang released Suresh a day later.

Based on a tip-off, the police on Saturday arrested M.Hariprasad and A.Senthil Kumar from Echampatti bus stop.

On inquiry, the police found that along with two other accused, A. Padma (sister of Senthil Kumar) and P.Deepakraj, the gang was running a bank loan facilitation agency and they faced huge losses in the business. The gang also lost money by investing in share market and to overcome their losses, they planned to kidnap a wealthy person and demand ransom. Suresh Kumar is related to Hariprasad and that’s how they planned to kidnap him.

All four accused were remanded in judicial custody on Saturday and the police are on the lookout for five other accused in the case.
