FSSAI seizes 350 kg of gutka

Officials of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) seized 350 kg of banned tobacco products from a warehouse at Thomas Street on Saturday. The seized products are valued around ₹2 lakh.

The prohibited tobacco products (gutka) in sachets were found at a warehouse belonging to Loganathan (38).

FSSAI officials said that several warehouses at Thomas Street were source of supply of banned tobacco products to retail vendors in the city. Many small and large godowns in the street have been checked by the team.

Officials seized 750 kg of banned tobacco products from the warehouse of Meenakshi Enterprises run by M. Megraj, a native of Rajasthan, at Thomas Street on Monday. On Friday, 250 kg of gutka was seized from another warehouse on the same street.
