CPI(M) MP P R Natarajan has appealed to the Centre to expedite various road projects undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India in the district, particularly the upgradation of Coimbatore by-pass to four-lane to ensure free and safe flow of traffic.

In a letter to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister, Dr C P Joshi, Mr. Natarajan, representing Coimbatore in Lok Sabha, said the project of 6/4 laning of Chengappalli-Walayar section awarded to IVRCL Infrastructure and Projects Ltd, excluding Coimbatore bye-pass would affect transport of goods to the Cochin Port.

Stating that at present all the major arterial roads forming part of the three NH Roads were facing heavy traffic congestion in the city, Mr. Natarajan said much time had been lost in starting the works and wanted them to be expedited.
