Four persons drown in Paambaru reservoir


Three teenagers of a family were among four persons drowned in Paambaru Reservoir at Uthangarai on Sunday.

A weekend tour turned tragic for two families including a newly married couple.

On Sunday, G. Perumalsamy (24) and his wife V. Nivedha (20) from Bargur in Krishnagiri, who got married last month, along with Perumalsamy’s sister Yuvarani (20) visited a relative, Ilangovan, at Odampatty in Uthangarai. Later, Ilangovan’s daughters Sneha (18) and Kanniga (19) and son Santosh (14) accompanied them to the reservoir. On reaching there, all of them stood in the waters for a selfie when Santosh slipped into the water, followed by the four girls.

Perumalsamy managed to hold balance and rescued Yuvarani. The others drowned. Sneha and Kanniga were studying in a private college in Tiruchengode, while Santosh was a class IX student. The bodies were recovered and sent to the Uthangarai Government Hospital.

It may be noted that 15 children, 11 of them under 12 years of age, drowned in the district in a fortnight.
