Four persons were killed and 34 others injured in a pre-dawn accident involving a State-owned bus and a container lorry on Krishnagiri-Hosur National Highway at Samalpallam on Monday. The bus driver, conductor and two passengers were killed.

Thirty-eight passengers were travelling in the bus from Tiruvannamalai that was bound for Hosur. The bus was crossing Samalpallam near Shoolagiri on Krishnagiri-Hosur NH, when a container lorry heading towards Krishnagiri from Hosur went off control due to tyre burst, rammed the median and collided head-on with the bus.

Bus driver Vediappan(40) was killed on the spot. Conductor Sudhakar(45) and a passenger Chinnakannu(60) succumbed to injuries at the Krishnagiri Government Hospital. Another passenger Shanti (55), a resident of Bengaluru, was referred to Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital with critical injuries, where she succumbed later in the day. Among the 34 injured were six women. The injured were rushed to the Government Headquarters Hospital in Krishnagiri and Hosur.

Earlier, District Collector S.Prabhakar visited the injured at the government hospital in Krishnagiri. Superintendent of Police Bandi Gangadar visited the site of the accident.

The mangled remains of the government bus was cleared and the lorry was removed off the highway.
