Four arrested for vandalising hospital

The police have arrested Rathinapuri residents Sakthi Kumar (22), and Limon Ambrose (23), and Vellalore residents Rashid (21) and Niyaz (20) on charges of vandalising a hospital in Podanur following the death of their friend and Rathinapuri resident Biju (18) a few days ago. The police said that Biju met with an accident on the night of January 1 and was taken to the hospital by passers-by. He later died at the hospital. On hearing about Biju’s death, his friends vandalised the hospital.

Based on a complaint from the hospital’s general manager Vairamani, the police registered a case and arrested the four after seeing the visuals caught on CCTV camera, the police added.

Motorcyclist killed in accident

Annur resident S. Sivadhas (40) died on Thursday to injuries he had sustained in an accident involving his motorcycle and a two-wheeler on January 1 at Samayanur in Thudiyalur Police limits. The police said that in the impact of the collision between Sivadhas’s motorcycle and Veerapandi Pudur resident M. Senthilkumar’s scooter, Sivadhas sustained injuries and was taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, where he died. The police have registered a case against Senthilkumar for rash and negligent driving.

Pillion rider killed

Tirupur resident P. Palanisamy (48) was killed in an accident involving a two-wheeler he was riding pillion and a tractor at Moolakadai in Kinathukadavu Police limits on Wednesday.

The police said the two-wheeler rider V. Rajendran of Avinashi rode the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, hit the rear of a tractor and in the impact Palanisamy sustained injuries. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died. The police have registered a case in this connection.

Youth dies of injuries sustained in group clash

Selvapuram Housing Unit resident V. Manikandan succumbed on Thursday to injuries he had sustained in a group clash in the area on Wednesday. The police said when Manikandan and his friend Ramesh were returning home on a motorcycle, four persons on motorcycles – Balaraman, B. Bharatwaj, S. Dinakaran and S. Sethuraman - picked a quarrel due to enmity and assaulted Manikandan, who sustained injuries after falling from the motorcycle. Manikandan was rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, where he died. A case has been registered.

Shop burgled

Unidentified persons broke into Ondipudur resident Sheik Shazhalal’s shop in the area and decamped with ₹4,000 on Wednesday, the police said.
