Four persons, who attempted to murder a history-sheeter and his friend, near City Police Commissioner’s Office and the District Court on Tuesday were arrested by the Race Course police late in the night.

The accused confessed to the police that they plotted the attack to avenge the murder attempt on one of their friends.

M. Sathish Kumar (25), B. Hariharan (25), T. Dhanabal (24), and R. Surya (24), all from Ganapathy, were arrested for the assault on N. Pradeep (19) and M. Tamizhvanan (22), also hailing from the same area.

The accused told the police that Pradeep and two others had attacked one of their friends Sathosh Kumar two months ago. The three persons were arrested for attempt to murder. While Pradeep was granted conditional bail, the two others were detained under provisions of the Goondas Act.

The accused told the police that though they had plotted to attack Pradeep at Ganapthy, they could not execute the plan. They later planned to assault Pradeep in city as he was appearing at the second judicial magistrate court on a regular basis to meet the bail conditions. The four men attacked Pradeep and Tamizhvanan when they were returning from the court.

The police also seized the two-wheelers the accused used for the murder attempt. All the four were produced before the third judicial magistrate on Wednesday.
