Four arrested for harassing woman

The Kinathukadavu Police arrested four persons on charges of harassing a married woman over phone and assaulting her husband when he warned them.

Police said that the victim S. Mariammal was married to P. Sabareeshwaran of Kothavadai in Kinathukadavu and was working in a private firm at Kothavadi. The accused S. Rejikumar, who was also working in the same firm, frequently called Mariammal on her mobile phone and harassed her.

On Thursday, the woman’s husband answered the call and warned Rejikumar. Agitated over the incident, Rejikumar and three persons R. Manikandan , N. Senthilkumar and M. Prakash went to Sabareeshwaran’s house the same night and assaulted him. The three were booked under sections 294B (using filthy language), 323 (causing hurt), 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons) and 506(ii) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Teenagers arrested

Three teenagers were arrested by the Rathinapuri Police on Friday on the charges of house-breaking at Sivanandha Colony a week ago and decamping with jewellery and silver ornaments.

The arrested were A. Sakthivel (19), S. Murali alias Sanjai Murali (19) and S. Bindha alias Karthi (19) of the same locality. They were arrested following a complaint from P. Sivaraj, who had gone out with his family. They were booked under sections 380 (theft) and 457 (breaking into a house at night) of the Indian Penal Code and taken to Borstal School (for convicts and under trials in the age group of 18 to 21 years) at Pollachi.

Woman, daughter

found hanging

A 40-year-old woman and her 20-year-old daughter were found hanging in their house at Nallampalayam near Ganapathy in the city on Saturday morning. The police said that the two could have taken the extreme step after an argument between them over a family dispute.

According to the police, Indrani (40) of Theni district who was separated from her husband was staying with her daughter Swathikarevathi (20). Indrani was employed at a ration shop run by a cooperative society at Rathinapuri and the girl was a third year engineering student in a private college in Coimbatore.

It was learnt that Swathikarevathi wanted her mother and father to live together. Inquiries by the police revealed that during the late hours of Friday the two had a heated argument and their house was locked for a very long time on Saturday.

Their relatives found the two hanging from the ceiling and informed the police. The bodies were taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. Saravanampatty Police registered a case and are investigating.

Annur Police registered case against nine persons on the charges of gambling at Pullamadai Junction near Annur on Friday.

The police also seized Rs. 1.11 lakh from them.
