An association representing the differently abled has voiced strong objections to a Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) notification for Combined Subordinate Service Recruitment.
Issued on April, the notification sought to fill up vacancies in Group I and II posts such as tahsildhars, Revenue Inspectors and Commercial Tax officers besides clerical posts with the examination scheduled to be held in July. In a statement issued here, Surya Nagappan, Managing Trustee of UDIS Forum, which works for the differently-abled, says the notification reduces the reservation for the differently abled persons. Even this reduced reservation was concentrated in clerical posts alone. He says the notification calls for filling up 1,421 posts, of which three per cent must be reserved for differently abled as per Government guidelines and judicial pronouncements. While this worked out to 37 posts, TNPSC has announced only 26 as reserved. Further, of this all but one post were in the clerical cadre. He said that this was in violation of the relevant guidelines and judgements rendered by the courts. He called upon the State Government and the TNPSC to address this issue.
