Forest college students stage demonstration

January 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Students and research scholars at the Forest College and Research Institute, Mettupalayam, staged a demonstration on the campus on Monday demanding that the State Government restore the preferential treatment it gave them in appointment to posts in Forest Department.

Students’ representatives said that the Government Order (76) in 2014 has brought down the reservation for the college students from 100 per cent to 25 per cent in appointment to the Forest Rangers’ posts.

This had effectively negated the benefits the students had got by way of Government Order 118 of 2009, providing 100 per cent reservation.

Now the government had come out with a notification for recruitment for the post of Foresters by saying that graduates in chemistry, mathematics, physics, computer science, too were eligible to apply.
