Five injured as van overturns

Five persons were injured when the van in which they were travelling to a wedding at Eachanari near Coimbatore overturned after it was reportedly hit by an ambulance belonging to a private hospital on Sunday. The accident occurred near a college at Chinniyampalayam on Avinashi to Palakkad bypass road. The van driver tried to give way to the ambulance but was reportedly hit from behind by the vehicle.

The police said that the occupants of the van were taken to a private hospital. Sulur Police said that a case was not registered as both parties have decided to go on a compromise on this issue.



Youth electrocuted

A. Balachandran (21) of Negamam was electrocuted when the bamboo poles he was erecting came in contact with a high tension wire near Palladam to Pollachi Main Road at Chinneripalayam, on Saturday. The police said the incident occurred when the deceased and another person Subramani were helping Balachandran’s father Annadurai, a cable operator, to erect bamboo poles for cable wires. Balachandran did not wear slippers and died on the spot. Subramani escaped with injuries, as he wore slippers.
