Five injured as law college students clash

Institution has been closed indefinitely following violence on campus

A clash between two groups of students of the Coimbatore Law College on Friday morning has left five injured. Coimbatore Rural Police have posted their personnel at the college, which has been closed indefinitely.

According to the police, a group of students owing their allegiance to third year student Ilayaraja clashed with the group of students supporting Jayaraman, said to be an alumnus, on the college campus.

Wordy duel related to money Jayaraman borrowed from Ilayaraja is said to have turned into assault with knives and wooden clubs.

The clash happened near the principal's room, where the two groups had gone to attend a meeting the college principal wanted to hold in order to inquire into the incident that happened two days ago.

The police said the two groups of students had clashed two days ago as well.

Friday's clash left third year students Siva and Anandaraj and fourth year students Sasikumar, Sundar and Vellaisamy injured. They are recuperating at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.

A couple of days ago when the students clashed, the principal had suspended them, the police said and added that the incident was the latest in the series where the law college students had attached one another and also the residents in the neighbourhood.

The Vadavalli police have registered a case in this connection.
