Five colleges in western region selected under TEQIP

Out of the seven engineering colleges from Tamil Nadu selected under Phase – III of Technical Education Quality Implementation Programme (TEQIP), five colleges are in Coimbatore, Salem and Krishnagiri.

The colleges are Government College of Technology, Coimbatore; Government College of Engineering, Salem; PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore; Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Coimbatore and Government College of Engineering, Bargur, Krishnagiri.

The selected colleges under TEQIP, an initiative by Ministry of Human Resource Department and supported by World Bank, had been sanctioned a fund of ₹ 7 crore, an official release said. Half of the fund would be used for procurement and installation of machinery and the other half would be used for improving the soft skills of students in these seven colleges.

Alagappa Chettiar Government College of Engineering and Technology, Karaikudi, and Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, are the other two colleges selected under TEQIP Phase – III.

These seven colleges will be the mentor institutions for eight institutions located in Chhattisgarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Workshop conducted

A national-level workshop for the officials of TEQIP-implementing 24 states was organised by State Project Implementation Unit – Tamil Nadu, Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai, on October 31 and November 1 at Jenneys Residency. The workshop focused on advance training for hardware and soft skill activities under TEQIP Phase – III, the release said.
