The District Rural Police have arrested a person and are on the lookout for four others for allegedly attempting to murder two persons over a financial dispute.

According to the police, K. Hariharan (32) of Chinna Kovil Street in Perur, a real estate developer, had borrowed Rs. 15,000 from D. Pradeep (36), an ice cream vendor in the same locality, around six months ago.

Hariharan returned Rs. 10,000 on Monday. When Pradeep and his elder brother D. Ranjith (37), a daily wage labourer, asked the remaining sum, Hariharan and four of his friends allegedly assaulted the brothers with cricket bats and pen knives.

Ranjith and Pradeep have been hospitalised. Based on their complaint, the Perur Police have registered a case and invoked Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 294(b)(utter obscene words in public) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons) of the Indian Penal Code.

Hariharan has been arrested and was remanded in custody. Further investigations are on.
