Coimbatore Integrated Waste Management Company Pvt. Ltd. has on Wednesday received Rs. 1.52 crore from the Coimbatore Corporation. According to sources, the money is the first tranche of the dues the civic body has to pay the company, as per a court direction.

Following a dispute between the civic body and the company, the latter approached the Madras High Court praying for a direction to the civic body to clear the Rs. 21 crore in dues.

The court ordered the civic body to pay nearly Rs. 8 crore – the transport component of the dues over which there was no dispute.

Based on the court direction the Corporation has paid Rs. 1.52 crore to the company. It will send the remaining 6.52 crore within the next 15 days, as per the court mandate, the sources said.

The money will help the company revive a part of the plant to increase the waste processing capacity to around 500 tonnes a day.

At present the company is processing around 300 tonnes waste a day.

Fly control measures

The sources said that the Company is also looking at fly control measures using insect growth regulator. It has approached a few companies but is yet to finalise on the proposal.

Meanwhile, the Corporation has also started composting waste at a separate facility within the Vellalore yard. The sources said using the waste generated from restaurants and vegetable markets, the Corporation had started the composting work.
