Farmers affiliated to the Tamilaga Vivasayigal Sangam will stage a demonstration at the Tamil Nadu – Karnataka inter-State border near Hosur on May 10 to condemn the adamant stand of Karnataka on the issue of release of Cauvery water from Krishnaraja Sagar and Kabini reservoirs.

K. Sundaram, general secretary of the Sangam, told reporters here on Wednesday that Karnataka Government has been continuously refusing to abide by the Supreme Court ruling. Even it has given scant respect to the directive of the Supreme Court on May 3 to release water immediately to Tamil Nadu.

He said that the Centre had done great injustice to Tamil Nadu on the Cauvery issue by not constituting the Cauvery Management Board despite stern directive by the Supreme Court. The Centre’s inaction had only rubbed salt into the wounds of the farming community of the state.

The agitation was also to condemn the betrayal by the Centre.

Mr. Sundaram said that all office-bearers of the Sangam will participate in the agitation.
