The Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangam has demanded desilting of the KRP Dam before the onset of monsoons.
According a petition to the district administration, the dam was choked with silt, which would impact the storage capacity of the reservoir, soon after the monsoonal inflow.
The farmers affiliated to the association has called upon the administration to order desilting of the reservoir and provide the silt free of cost to the farmers.
Further, the association has also alleged that the shutters of the reservoir were in need of repair and were not fit enough to hold water. With low water level in the reservoir, the administration should repair the shutters in order to prevent wastage of water by run-off.
The Sangam has also called for the implementation of the Enekol project, where canals will be constructed along the either sluices of the check dam. The project was announced in February this year. The petition has called for implementation of the project that was announced through a G.O.
Earlier, led by the State president S.A.Chinnasamy, farmers affiliated to the Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangam, petitioned the District Revenue Officer on Monday.
