The School Education Department has directed all districts to expedite distribution of CDs/DVDs, containing educational material in animated format on Plus Two and Class X subjects, in Government schools. The public examinations (theory) begin on March 5 for Plus Two and March 19 for Class X.
They are intended to make it easy for academically-weak students to comprehend difficult concepts in various subjects.
They were being issued in the run up to revision tests to achieve cent per cent pass in Government schools in the Plus Two, a major objective of the department.
The Government schools were directed to show these materials using projectors and computers during the school hours. As many as 37,160 students from 325 Government, aided, private, Corporation, Municipal and Adi Dravidar Welfare schools in Coimbatore district will appear for the Plus-Two public examinations.
The orders were issued during a video conference chaired on Wednesday by D. Sabitha, School Education Secretary, S. Kannappan, Director of School Education Department and R. Elangovan, Director of Elementary Education and the Joint Directors of various Directorates in which Chief Educational Officers of all districts took part.
According to an official who took part in the meeting, the Secretary also directed the officials to identify students failing in single and double subjects and focus on them. Further, the schools’ Headmasters were instructed to identify students with potential for achieving State ranks and motivate them.
Results review
The half-yearly examination results of Plus Two and Class X students in Government, aided, private, Corporation, and municipal schools were also reviewed during the meet.
The overall performance of Coimbatore in Plus Two improved with the pass percentage being 83 in the half-yearly examinations, compared to 80 in the quarterly examinations.
Both the Government and aided schools achieved an increase of 9 percentage points, recording 67 per cent and 85 per cent respectively in the half-yearly examinations.
However, the Corporation officials were told to impart more focus after its schools registered one percentage point decline, recording 78 per cent.
Municipal schools also recorded a drop from 74 per cent in quarterly examinations to 69 per cent in half-yearly examinations.
As far as SSLC goes, the official said that the pass percentage of the district registered a considerable increase from 73 per cent in quarterly exams to 80 per cent in half-yearly examinations.
