District Collector C. Kathiravan has recommended the Director of Medical Services, Chennai, to initiate departmental action against a doctor at IRT Perundurai Medical College, who was found working in his private scan centre while on duty hours.

Mr. Kathiravan told media persons here on Friday that following complaints from public that V.K. Venkateswaran of Radiology Department, IRT Perundurai Medical College, was not present at the hospital during duty hours, he ordered Erode Revenue Divisional Officer and Perundurai Tahsildar to conduct an inquiry and submit a report on June 18.

During the inquiry, it was found that the doctor used to work in his scan centre located in Perundurai Town, after signing the attendance register in the hospital and registering his thumb impression in the bio-metric attendance.

Though his duty hours at the hospital was from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., he used to work only between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Based on the report, the recommendation was made, Mr. Kathiravan added.

Mr. Kathiravan has also asked the Dean of the college to appoint a doctor in the place of Mr. Venkateswaran, on a temporary basis.
