‘Ensure sale of certified seeds at exhibitions’

October 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:53 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The Vivasayeegal Sangam (farmers’ association) has urged the Seed Certification Department to ensure that only certified seeds are sold at farmers’ exhibitions.

Meeting

A resolution the association passed recently at its general body meeting said that the department should stop sale of spurious seeds, conduct checks at farmers’ exhibitions and initiate action against those companies that sold such seeds.

It also wanted the department to start the Tamil Nadu State Seed Development Agency and fully utilise the Rs. 134 crore the Government had allotted last year. After the announcement last year, there had been very little development in this regard.
