The Coimbatore urban unit of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has urged the Coimbatore Corporation to ensure equitable supply of drinking water.
In a resolution passed at the recently held executive committee meeting, the party said though water storage positions in the reservoirs that supplied water to the city were comfortable, the Corporation had failed to ensure equitable distribution of water.
There were areas in the city that continued to get water only once in 15 to 20 days. The Corporation should ensure that the residents of such areas got water more frequently.
It also decried the poor conditions of roads and street lights in the city.
The Corporation was yet to repair the roads that were damaged during rain. It should immediately attend to those. The party also said that there were at least more than 100 street lights in each of the 100 wards that were faulty and wanted the Corporation to replace them at the earliest.
It also decided to hold a protest in front of the Coimbatore South Taluk office on September 18, in response to a call given by the party president M.K. Stalin demanding the resignations of tainted ministers in the State Cabinet.
