Over 300 people registered their names as organ donors at “Gift an Organ” awareness programme held here on Sunday.

The camp was organised by Gem Hospital and Research Centre, jointly with Coimbatore United Round Table 186 and Wallcliffs Law Firm.

An organ can save a life! These words echoed at the Brookefields mall on Sunday. Shoppers and students came forward to register their names.

More than 300 people registered as organ donors and most of them chose to donate all the organs listed in the registration forms (eyes, kidney, liver, etc). They were given the organ donor cards.

Anand Vijai and Senthilnathan of the Gem Hospital spoke on the importance of organ donation.

Dr. Senthilnathan said the registration will continue throughout the week at the hospital. This is part of the National Organ Donation Day to be observed on November 27.

According to Dr. Vijai, the district is leading in organ donation, with registrations more than the number in Chennai.

Dr. Senthilnathan added that the data of the donors will be shared with the State Government.
