Elephant found dead

A female elephant was found dead in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, near Pollachi, in the district.

Forest officials received information on Sunday evening that the carcass had been spotted at Thavalaparai in Shekalmudi forest area coming under Manampalli Range of the Reserve.

As it was located deep inside the forests, the investigations began on Monday morning.

A team comprising a ranger, veterinarians, and guards went to the spot. It was estimated to be between 18 and 20 years old.

The team found that the elephant had died while delivering a calf, which had also died.

An autopsy was performed on the spot and the carcass was left behind.
