P. Senthilnathan, a consultant surgical Gastroenterologist and Liver and Pancreatic surgeon at GEM Hospital and Research Centre, Coimbatore, has been elected the secretary of the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI).

He was elected for the position for a period of two years (till the end of 2016) at the association’s 9{+t}{+h}annual conference that was held in Dubai in November 2014. In a release, the hospital has claimed that he is the first surgeon from Tamil Nadu to be elected secretary.

Dr. Senthilnathan said that this year the association would celebrate the silver jubilee of laparoscopic surgery in India by conducting various programmes for doctors and free camps by the members across the country. Noting that there were about 6,000 members in the association, he said that each member would perform at least 10 free surgeries this year to spread awareness on the benefits of laparoscopic surgery.
