The police have made elaborate security arrangements for the Republic Day celebrations in the city and district.

Security has also been stepped up at the Coimbatore Junction and at the airport.

The sources said that about 2,000 police personnel, home guards and other allied forces have been deployed for security arrangements. Deployment was increased at the check posts also.

Tight security has been provided at the VOC Park where the Collector Archana Patnaik hoists the national tricolour.

As part of the security arrangements at the airport, visitors would not be allowed to enter the terminal building till January 30.

Around 260 Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel deployed at the airport would extend their shifts from the regular eight hours to 12 hours.

While random checking of passengers and baggage was being carried out, the airport authorities said that all passengers would be thoroughly checked on entering the airport and by the airline security before they board the plane.
