Officials from the Town Planning Department at Coonoor in The Nilgiris on Monday sealed eight buildings that violated the norms for constructing buildings. The sealed buildings included a lodge, three commercial establishments and four houses. Town Planning Officer for Coonoor S. Sudalayarandi Ravi said that most of the buildings sealed on Monday had more than two floors – which are not approved by the government. Venkateshwara Lodge on Ooty Road near Coonoor Railway Station had four floors and the officials sealed the second and third floors of the lodge.

Three buildings were sealed near Darlington Bridge and one each near the Applebee Road, Bedford, Balaclava, Coonoor Bus Stand and near the Coonoor Railway Station. Mr. Ravi said that these buildings were given time to demolish the portions that were violating building norms, but they did not comply.
